    Norman High School is going green.And it's the students who are helping to make that possible.NHS is one of 10 schools in Oklahoma participating in a pilot program this school year called the Oklahoma Green Schools Program.

    Inmates who will spend Thanksgiving Day at the Cleveland County Detention Center should not expect a traditional holiday meal, Cleveland County Undersheriff Rhett Burnett said.Burnett said preparing turkey dinners with all the trimmings is too expensive.

    City council adopts parks master plan
    The Norman City Council voted unanimously to adopt the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Tuesday during its regular meeting at City Hall.The plan, which has been several months in the making, could cost up to $73.

    Oklahoma Geological Survey to play role in geothermal energy search
    Energy Secretary Stephen Chu recently announced awards totaling $338 million, with $17.79 million from the Department of Energy (DOE) going to a coalition of 40 state geological surveys to produce a new National Geothermal Data System with relevant state-specific geothermal data.

    Holiday Celebration set Dec. 4
    The City of Norman's 18th annual Holiday Celebration will take place Dec. 4 at Andrews Park. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include free hot chocolate, cookies and popcorn for all ages and there will also be moon bounces for the kids.

    NHS yearbook takes home honors
    The Norman High School Trail yearbook staff earned an All-Oklahoman Award Nov. 16 at the 2009 Oklahoma Scholastic Media Fall Conference at the University of Oklahoma, making it one of the top 14 yearbooks in the state.

    Nelson receives faculty fellowship from Chief Academic Officers of Big 12 universities
    Dr. Donna J. Nelson, an associate professor of chemistry at the University of Oklahoma, recently received a faculty fellowship from the chief academic officers of the Big 12 universities.She will visit the Center for Nano and Molecular Science at the University of Texas at Austin next year to collaborate on nanotechnology research.

    Vote online to pick movie for museum showing
    The Sam Noble Museum will continue its monthly "Movie Night at the Museum" 7 p.m. Dec. 19.The museum is asking visitors to help choose the movie. An online poll is set up where the public can cast their vote from a selection of potential movies for the December slot.

    Repackaging libraries to be topic of OU Libraries conference
    "Climbing Out of the Box: Repackaging Libraries for Survival" will be the theme of the 2010 national librarians' conference sponsored by the University of Oklahoma Libraries.The conference, featuring presentations by nationally recognized library leaders, is scheduled for March 4 and 5 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Oklahoma City.

    Paul B. Bell Jr., dean of the University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences and vice provost for instruction at OU, assumed the presidency of the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences at its annual meeting in Baltimore, Md.

    America Legion plans Christmas dinner
    American Legion Post 88 will have a Christmas dinner for its legionnaires for the first time in almost 20 years, said Don Schulenberg, post commander."They pay their dues; it's time for us to pay them back," he said.

    Five arrested during sobriety checkpoint
    Norman police arrested five people for driving under the influence of alcohol Nov. 20 during a sobriety checkpoint held in the 2800 block of N. Flood Avenue. Of the five arrested, one person was cited for DUI under 21 years of age.
